Tower 45 Assists in Funeral

FVFC Gets Check from Norfolk Southern
A $1,000 dollar check is being presented to the Fleetwood Volunteer Fire Company on behalf of the local district of Norfolk Southern and the Norfolk Southern Foundation. This money will be used for general debit reduction on equipment. Presenting the check is James Frees of Norfolk Southern and accepting is Asst. Chief John Manmiller
Fleetwood First Due to 2nd Multiple Entrapment Call in a Week At 0635 Friday November 09, Fleetwood's Rescue and EMS, Walnuttown's Fire, and Topton's EMS were sent to Fleetwood-Lyons Rd and School Rd for a vehicle into a telephone pole. Upon arrival the Rescue found a pole sheared and vehicle upside-down in a cut cornfield. Two males were entrapped with major injuries. As crews went to work with stabilization and door removal, a second due Rescue (Lyons) was called for manpower and support. The two injured were removed at 21 minutes and 24 minutes after dispatch. Both were flown by aeromedical due to injuries. The Fleetwood Police are investigating the incident.
A fatal accident occurred just a few miles north on the same road as the accident above, on the Deka bridge, 11/5/07. Asst. Chief Manmiller (45-11) was first on scene and found a head-on, two vehicle MVA with 4 entrapped in one vehicle whose rear end came to rest on a guide rail, and two victims self-extricated themselves from the second vehicle that was on its roof (see pics). One fatality was confirmed on scene, while the same companies as above used multiple hydraulic tools to extricate the 3 passengers in the rear seat. These three patients were all flown via LVH MedEvac to the trauma center. Fire police had the road closed for for a few hours as Fleetwood police and the coroners office investigated.
New Truck Update 11/1/07 As of 10/31/07 the new Squad/Brush was placed into service. Members have been training with the CAFS unit and getting familiar with driving. New High and Low band radios were installed and equipment was transferred. Stripping is not completed as of now but will be finished in the near future. A big thank you to the truck committee for putting together a very well thought out, cost effective unit.

Fleetwood takes best overall company at Hamburg's 175th The department took home four awards from the Hamburg 175th anniversary firemen’s parade on Saturday 9/29/07:
- 1st place Best appearing Ambulance
- 2nd place Best appearing Engine
- 2nd place Best appearing American LaFrance
- Best appearing Company
Over 23 members of FVFC took part in the parade. After the parade, the the Engine and Rescue returned to station and released Company 21 from covering for us while we were gone. Thanks Mike (21-10)!
The Tower and Squad stayed for the entire day and provided a fireworks standby for Hamburg during the closing festivities.

Morning structure fire in Kuztown 9/20/07. A 0638 dispatch to fill a first alarm assignment for Co 46 got Fleetwood firefighters up early. The fully involved structure was Duffers Distributors, a purveyor of beer and soda located on Fairview street in the college town of Kuztown. With Co 46 (Kuztown) and Co. 35 (Lyons) on the initial, the first in Chief reported a well off building with fire through the roof and requested the first alarm be sent. The first alarm including Co 45 (Fleetwood) and Co. 21 (Topton) brought the total amount of ladders to three which eventually went to work on this job.
Tower operations from T-45 were utilized. There were no injuries reported on the scene and a good job to 46-10 for running a smooth operation. Fleetwood units were cleared at 0908. Pics
Head on Collision w/ Entrapment 9/16/07 at 2246 hrs company 32, 33 and Rescue 45 were dispatched to 662 near 222 for a MVA w/ entrapment. On arrival, units found 2 cars that collided head-on with three victims trapped between the two cars. Two of the victims were flown to area hospitals by MedEvac and Penn Star helicopters, the third was ground transported. Car #2 was thrown in a corn field after impact and the drivers legs were pinned under the dash. Extensive front-end damage from the collision made this rescue even more difficult. See pics here
Explosion and Fire 8/25/07 at around 1123 hrs, Station 45 was dispatched to assist company 21 (Topton) with an explosion and fire at an industrial facility. Maintenance personnel at the facility called the FD for assistance when they detected a malfunctioning high temperature boiler. Topton fire personnel were standing by as the boiler was being shut down when the explosion occurred and Topton’s assistant chief (21-11) immediately requested the 1st alarm assignment to assist. Quick work by company 21 extinguished the fire, and the 2nd alarm assignment was struck (including Fleetwood) to assist due to the very warm weather. Pics
